Africa’s Leading Apricot Producer Joins World’s Top Five

Algeria has been recognized among the world's leading apricot producers, achieving the fifth global rank with a production volume of 203,916 tons. This classification not only places Algeria within the top echelon of international fruit producers but also confirms its position as the top apricot producer in both Africa and the Arab world. The significant output surpasses that of several other nations, solidifying the country's agricultural prominence.
The new global ranking positions Algeria directly after four major producers: Turkey, which leads with 803,000 tons, followed by Uzbekistan at 451,263 tons, Iran with 305,932 tons, and Italy at 230,080 tons. Algeria's 203,916 tons of apricots place it ahead of countries such as Pakistan (174,546 tons), Afghanistan (170,508 tons), and France (128,080 tons), as well as Armenia, Greece, and Spain. Achieving an output exceeding 200,000 tons is a notable benchmark, reached by only a limited number of countries globally, further underscoring Algeria's strength in this sector.
This significant achievement in apricot production highlights Algeria's agricultural capability and its role as a global agricultural power in this specific fruit sector. The consistent high volume of fruit tree cultivation reflects positively on the national agricultural landscape. Furthermore, this strong production record opens up economic discussions regarding strategies to convert this raw output into greater added value through various processes such as transformation, effective storage, drying techniques, and expanded export opportunities, thereby contributing further to the national economy.
