National Raï Festival Returns to Sidi Bel Abbès in 2026

The 15th edition of the National Raï Festival is set to make its highly anticipated return to its historical birthplace, Sidi Bel Abbès, from August 31 to September 3, 2026. The Minister of Culture and Arts announced this significant cultural event, emphasizing a strong desire to reconnect the major festival with its roots in the city.

This upcoming edition is planned as a tribute to Saâdia Badiâ, widely known as Cheikha Rimitti, an emblematic and historical figure of Raï music and a native of Sidi Bel Abbès. Her unique voice carried the essence of Raï to international stages, and this homage recognizes her immense career and contributions to the genre.

Beyond the musical event, the festival's return to its origins represents an important dialogue with Algerian cultural memory. It underscores that Raï, often celebrated as Algeria's gift to the world, remains deeply embedded in the nation's identity and popular culture. The Ministry of Culture and Arts aims for this edition to be a powerful and symbolic moment, celebrating the diverse Algerian soul.

The event will further highlight that Raï music, which has historically narrated the daily lives, joys, and sorrows of ordinary people, has successfully transcended geographical boundaries. It has established itself permanently in humanity's memory as a universal Algerian heritage.
