Oman’s Suhail Bahwan, Algerian Ministry Agree to Arzew Fertilizer Expansion

Algeria's Ministry of Hydrocarbons has announced an agreement with Oman's Suhail Bahwan Holding group to launch the expansion project for the Algéro-Omanaise Fertilizers company (AOA) in Arzew, located in the Oran province. This strategic initiative aims to increase the plant's production capacity by 50%, marking a significant step in enhancing Algeria's industrial output in the fertilizer sector.

The accord was finalized during a meeting at the Ministry's headquarters, attended by Minister of Hydrocarbons Mohamed Arkab, the Chairman of Suhail Bahwan Holding Sheikh Saad Suhail Bahwan, Oman's Ambassador to Algeria Saif bin Nasser bin Rashid Al-Badai, and Sonatrach CEO Nour Eddine Daoudi. This agreement follows a year of intensive technical and commercial consultations, signaling a move from the discussion and study phases to the tangible implementation of the AOA plant expansion project within the Arzew industrial zone. Executive steps will now commence, alongside the mobilization of necessary resources for the project's realization, which includes installing a new production line specifically for ammonia and urea, with the goal of increasing the added value of national resources and promoting processing industries.

Minister Arkab affirmed the sector's commitment to providing comprehensive support and overcoming any obstacles to accelerate the completion of this joint strategic project between Sonatrach and the Omani group, ensuring its implementation according to the established timelines. Both parties commended the deep and robust fraternal and historical relations between Algeria and the Sultanate of Oman, highlighting the positive dynamic in their bilateral cooperation which reflects a sincere political will from both nations' leaderships to forge an exemplary strategic partnership founded on economic complementarity and mutual interests.
