Taranto Games: Algeria Secures 12th Place with Six Medals
Algeria has secured the 12th position in the provisional overall standings at the ongoing Mediterranean Games Taranto 2026. The national contingent has amassed a total of six medals, comprising one gold, one silver, and four bronze.
The nation's sole gold medal was earned by wrestler Abdelkrim Fergat in the 60 kg Greco-Roman category. Fergat triumphed over Egypt's Mahmoud Faraj Mahmoud Saad with a decisive 10-1 victory in the final. Compatriot Fayçal Ben Ferj added a silver medal in the 67 kg Greco-Roman wrestling final, despite a 3-1 loss to Egypt's Mohamed Hassan Ahmed.
Algerian athletes further contributed to the medal tally by securing four bronze medals. Bachir Sid Azara won bronze in the 87 kg Greco-Roman wrestling, defeating Italy's Leon Rivalta 4-1. Fadi Rouabah also claimed a bronze medal in the 97 kg Greco-Roman wrestling, overcoming Greece's Loukratis Kesidis 6-1. Additionally, the mixed doubles badminton duo of Koceila Mammeri and Tanina Mammeri secured a bronze, as did Nadir Harb in the Taekwondo -58 kg category.
