New System Enhances Algerian Border Security, Fraud Control

Algerian Customs has deployed a new surveillance system across the nation's ports, international airports, and land border posts, as well as in customs zones and warehouses. This comprehensive measure aims to bolster national security, combat cross-border crime, and strengthen fraud suppression efforts. The new framework, detailed in two decrees published in Official Gazette No. 60 on August 23, modifies existing regulations and introduces enhanced monitoring capabilities for goods entering Algerian territory.

Central to this new deployment is the creation of fifty-three dedicated inspections for quality control and fraud suppression. These inspections are strategically located across terrestrial, maritime, and airport frontiers, alongside customs zones and warehouses. A ministerial decree has updated previous regulations regarding these inspections, while a second decree, jointly signed by the Ministers of Internal Trade and National Market Regulation, and Interior and Transport, specifies the precise locations for their implementation, ensuring continuous oversight of all incoming flows.

The extensive network of new inspections covers key entry points and logistical hubs. In Algiers, facilities are now present at the Port of Algiers, Houari Boumediene International Airport, and the customs zones of Rouiba, Hamiz, and Oued Smar. Oran sees similar installations at its port and airport, in addition to the Es Senia customs zone. Bejaia's port and the Soumam-Abane Ramdane International Airport also host new inspections. Furthermore, across wilayas bordering other nations, dedicated inspections have been established at each land border post, exemplified by locations such as Oum Tboul and El Ayoun in the wilaya of El Tarf.
