Public Authorities Allocate 6 Billion Centimes to Fire-Affected Families
Algerian public authorities have disbursed 6 billion centimes in aid to 188 families affected by forest fires across seven wilayas. This significant allocation follows the completion of a definitive census by the Ministry of Housing, Urban Planning, City and Urban Development, and is in line with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune's directives to ensure swift assistance and regularization for those impacted by the blazes.
The affected families are located across seven wilayas, with 88 families identified in Annaba, 49 in Béjaïa, 23 in Skikda, 15 in Guelma, 9 in Bouira, 3 in Boumerdès, and 1 in El Tarf. Expertise missions, conducted by agents from the National Technical Control Body for Construction (CTC) in collaboration with representatives from housing directorates and Real Estate Promotion and Management Offices (OPGI), were instrumental in accurately assessing the extent of the damage on the ground. The compensation process for the victims is set to continue until August 31, 2026.
On-site, rehabilitation and restoration efforts for damaged housing have already commenced in the majority of the concerned wilayas. This emergency intervention aims to enable affected families to return to dignified and suitable living conditions as quickly as possible. Concurrently, authorities have begun issuing allocation and compensation decisions to citizens, finalizing the administrative procedures related to their care. The voluntary contributions from Real Estate Promotion and Management Offices (OPGI) further reinforce the public support system, demonstrating a national spirit of solidarity and mobilization for citizens impacted by the fires.
