Relizane to Host New Hyundai Production Unit by 2027

South Korean automaker Hyundai officially confirmed its industrial return to Algeria, announcing plans to establish a production site in the Sidi Khettab industrial zone in Relizane by 2027. This development, confirmed during the company's Investor Day 2026, positions Algeria within Hyundai's strategic assembly network for the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region, alongside Saudi Arabia. The chosen location in Relizane will utilize the former production site of the Sovac group, marking a significant step for the nation's automotive sector.

The ambitious project aims to capitalize on the growing demand within the continental market, estimated at over one million vehicles annually. Hyundai's production at the Relizane plant will concentrate on meeting local and regional customer needs, focusing on city cars, popular sedans, and compact SUVs. Several key vehicles are already slated for assembly on the new production lines, indicating a tailored approach to the market.

Once operational, the facility in Relizane will become Hyundai's fourth production unit across Africa, joining existing sites in South Africa, Ghana, and Ethiopia. Algeria's strategic geographical location is recognized as a crucial entry point for the South Korean manufacturer, supporting its broader strategy for the African automotive market. This investment underscores Algeria's growing role as a manufacturing and distribution hub in the region.
