Combat Sports Drive Algeria’s 10-Medal Haul at Taranto Games

Algeria's total medal count at the Mediterranean Games in Taranto 2026 has reached 10, including one gold. Combat sports are highlighted as a primary contributor to this impressive haul, with the national delegation having secured one silver and eight bronze medals in addition to its gold.
Boxer Ghofrane Bennane earned a bronze medal in the 65kg category, showcasing the country's strength in this discipline. Other Algerian boxers, Amine Zenaz and Moustapha Abdou, are set to compete in their respective semi-final bouts in the 55kg and 80kg categories, aiming to advance and secure additional medals for the nation.
Beyond individual achievements, the Algerian women's national handball team secured a significant 37-23 victory over North Macedonia in the preliminary round of the competition. This win further underscores Algeria's broad participation and success across various sporting disciplines at the ongoing Games in Italy.
