French-Algerian Air Routes See Robust 3.3 Million Travelers
Air traffic connecting French and Algerian airports has experienced substantial growth, with passenger numbers significantly surpassing pre-crisis levels. In the first seven months of 2026, the volume of air travel between the two nations increased by a notable 30.3% compared to the same period in 2019, according to data from the French Ministry of Transport. A total of 3.3 million passengers utilized these routes during this period, indicating robust and expanding connectivity.
This dynamic growth has been largely driven by holiday departures and family visits, particularly during the summer season. The months of June and July alone saw nearly 1.1 million passengers traveling on the France-Algeria axis. July specifically recorded approximately 600,000 travelers departing from France towards Algeria, extending a strong trend observed from June, which itself accounted for close to 500,000 passengers. This significant influx is predominantly attributed to the Algerian community residing in France, who traveled extensively to spend summer holidays with relatives.
The latest report from the French Ministry of Transport, published on August 25, highlights Algeria's prominence among destinations favored by travelers departing from French airports. Further underscoring this positive trend, Air France has introduced a promotional offer for Algerian students accepted into French institutions and young travelers aged 12 to 29. This initiative provides a 10% discount on the pre-tax ticket price for eligible reservations made by September 30, 2026, for flights through December 31, 2026, on Air France-operated flights via Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport, aiming to mitigate travel costs for students.
