Algeria has called for a high-level Security Council meeting on the situation in Palestine, scheduled for September 27, during the UN General Assembly discussions in New York.

On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Algeria urged the Security Council to hold a high-level meeting on Palestine. Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Amar Ben Jamaa, emphasized the urgent need for decisions backed by mechanisms of accountability to ensure their implementation. In his speech on Thursday, he reaffirmed Algeria’s belief that peace must be imposed on those who reject it.

Ben Jamaa highlighted Algeria’s stance that “those who do not believe in peace must have it imposed upon them.” He called for a serious and clear approach to address the deteriorating situation in the region, stressing that the Security Council’s primary mission is to preserve international peace and security. He warned that the Middle East is on the brink of a full-scale regional war, which requires urgent and decisive action.

The Algerian ambassador expressed frustration over Israel’s impunity and ongoing violations of international law, which he said undermines the foundation of civilized societies. He also welcomed the overwhelming adoption of a UN General Assembly resolution demanding Israel’s withdrawal from occupied Palestinian territories within a year, a resolution supported by 124 countries.

This high-level meeting call marks Algeria’s second request for a Security Council session within 48 hours, following Lebanon’s urgent appeal to address recent cyberattacks and military aggression from Israel.
