CAF Champions League (Second Preliminary Round, Second Leg): MC Alger Defeats Tunisian US Monastir 2-0 to Reach Group Stage

Algiers – MC Alger, representing Algeria, has advanced to the group stage of the CAF Champions League after securing a 2-0 victory against Tunisia’s US Monastir on Saturday night at the Ali Amara Stadium in Douéra, Algiers. This match was part of the second leg of the second preliminary round of the continental competition.

The goals for MC Alger were scored by striker Zakaria Naidji with a stunning free kick in the 70th minute, followed by an own goal from Nigerian player Moses in the 81st minute. Despite this, Amin Mesoussa missed a penalty for MC Alger in the 97th minute of extra time.

In the first leg, played last Friday at the Hamadi Agrebi Stadium in Rades, Tunisia, MC Alger had suffered a 1-0 loss due to an own goal by defender Ghazala.

Meanwhile, Algeria’s other representative in the competition, CR Belouizdad, also qualified for the group stage after defeating Burkina Faso’s AS Douanes in a penalty shootout (4-3). The match, held at the Miloud Hadefi Stadium in Oran, ended 1-0 in regular time, with a goal scored by Abdelrahmane Meziane in the 34th minute. The first leg, played in Bamako, Mali, saw AS Douanes win 1-0.
