Algerian Ligue 1 “Mobilis”: Elite Referees’ Performance Evaluated at Sidi Moussa Center

Algiers – The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) organized an evaluation day for elite referees at the National Technical Center in Sidi Moussa on Wednesday, attended by 68 referees. The event aimed to assess referee performances six games into the Algerian Ligue 1 “Mobilis” season.

The evaluation session was led by National Refereeing Director Mehdi Abid Charef, along with Mohamed Lamine Ben Aissa, Head of Training and Development for the Federal Refereeing Committee. Video Assistant Referee (VAR) instructors, Mustapha Fradi and Aomari Bouabdellah, also provided technical support and insights during the session.

Using a large display screen, various officiating scenarios were reviewed and analyzed, sparking lively discussion among the referees and facilitators. According to FAF, such sessions will be held regularly throughout the season to encourage elite referees to enhance their skills and elevate the standard of refereeing in Algerian football.

This season, the 2024-2025 Ligue 1 marked the debut of VAR technology, a long-awaited addition announced by FAF President Walid Sadi in February. In preparation, the federation recently issued a national and international tender for the procurement of four fully-equipped VAR trucks. The FAF currently has 35 certified VAR referees and three specialized instructors accredited by the CAF Academy in Egypt.
