Algiers – As part of their preparation for the 2025 Handball World Championship, the Algerian men’s national handball team has scheduled four friendly matches during a training camp that began on Tuesday in Poland. The World Championship will be held from January 14 to February 2, 2025, across Norway, Denmark, and Croatia.
Head Coach Farouk Dehili told the press, “After an initial training camp in Algiers with local players that started on October 26, we are now heading to Poland for four friendly matches. These games are scheduled to align with the International Handball Federation’s calendar from November 4 to November 10. This will give the coaching staff a chance to closely assess the players’ technical abilities.”
The Algerian team arrived in Poland on Tuesday and will play its first friendly match against KPR Ostrovia, currently ranked eighth in Poland’s top division, on Thursday at 18:00 Algerian time.
Upcoming Training Camps and Competitive Preparations
Following this Polish camp, the team is set for another training session in Croatia starting December 3. This camp aligns with the Algerian Handball Federation’s preparation plan, as announced by its president, Karima Taleb.
In the 29th edition of the Handball World Championship, Algeria has been drawn into Group B, where they will face defending champions Denmark, as well as Tunisia and Italy. The group-stage matches will take place in Herning, Denmark. In total, the 32 participating teams are divided into eight groups of four. The top three teams from each group will advance to the main round of the championship.
Algeria’s qualification for the 2025 Championship comes after finishing second in the 2024 African Nations Cup held in Egypt, where they fell to the host nation in the final with a score of 29-21.
