US Think Tanks Explore Algeria’s Booming Investment Climate in High-Level Algiers Meeting

The Director General of the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AIPA), Omar Rakkache, received on Thursday a high-profile delegation of representatives from leading American think tanks, visiting Algeria exclusively to assess the country’s business environment and expanding investment opportunities.

The delegation included William F. Wechsler of the Rafik Hariri Center for the Middle East, Daniel F. Runde and Romina Bandura from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), and Sabina Henneberg from the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.

Rakkache told dzwatch that Algeria’s investment reforms — including the landmark revision of the 49/51 rule and streamlined foreign profit repatriation — have already yielded over 350 registered foreign and joint investment projects, with approximately 50% currently under implementation.

He emphasized Algeria’s strategic vision to diversify economic cooperation with the United States beyond hydrocarbons, targeting agriculture, industry, pharmaceuticals, and mining.

The American representatives expressed strong interest in Algeria’s reform trajectory, praising transparency improvements and the one-stop-shop investor support system as major breakthroughs attracting global capital.
