Algeria’s energy giant Sonatrach has announced the loading of its first liquefied petroleum gas (LPG/Butane) shipment bound for the port of Douala, Cameroon, before being transported overland to Chad — marking a historic milestone in Algeria’s expanding African energy strategy.
The shipment follows a framework agreement signed between Sonatrach and Chadian distributor Gazcom on April 21, 2026, after intensive negotiations exploring LPG supply possibilities to Chad. Sonatrach told dzwatch that this deal represents a critical step in establishing direct ties with local distributors across the Sahel, opening doors to sustainable commercial partnerships with other African distributors.
This development builds on a broader hydrocarbons and mining cooperation protocol signed between Algeria and Chad on December 17, 2025, reinforcing South-South strategic partnerships and promoting joint exploration, production, and resource development projects across the continent.
