New Monitoring Devices Prevent Wildfire Recurrence in Algeria

Algerian authorities have initiated the deployment of continuous monitoring and follow-up devices at sites where wildfires were recently extinguished. This proactive measure aims to prevent any re-ignition of fires across the affected regions. The General Directorate of Civil Protection confirmed that the overall wildfire situation is stable, with most hotspots in the eastern provinces now under control.

Intervention teams are actively engaged in ongoing field monitoring and addressing any remaining isolated hotspots to ensure flames do not re-emerge or spread. Officials from the Civil Protection Directorate specified that these new monitoring devices have been strategically placed in previously affected areas. Their purpose is to diligently track the situation and confirm its stability, working in tandem with continuous ground surveillance. The directorate also reported the extinguishing of 118 fires, though five fires remain active in the provinces of Jijel, Setif, and Tebessa.

Complementing these preventative efforts, the Algerian Red Crescent has dispatched solidarity convoys to Skikda, Jijel, and Annaba, providing essential items such as bedding, blankets, medicines, and basic necessities to affected families. Furthermore, intervention teams, medical personnel, and ambulances have been reinforced to bolster relief operations, deliver healthcare, and support families impacted by the fires. The Red Crescent has also opened its doors for donations to effectively organize and distribute aid based on the immediate needs in the affected regions.
