Trade Minister Reviews UHT Milk Supply and Calls for Stronger Local Integration

Minister of Internal Trade and National Market Regulation Amel Abdelatif chaired a working meeting on Monday at the ministry’s headquarters to review the supply of sterilized UHT milk in the national market and examine ways to develop this strategic sector.
The meeting was attended by the Director General of the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency, Omar Rekkache, along with managers of UHT milk production units.
The session provided an opportunity to listen to the concerns of economic operators active in the sector. During the meeting, the minister stressed the need to adopt a new vision for developing the UHT milk industry. She explained that this approach should be based on making better use of local resources and strengthening coordination between milk producers and operators specialized in packaging materials.
According to the minister, this coordination is essential to accurately identify the real needs of the sector and increase the rate of national integration. She underlined that the main objective is to build a fully integrated local industry, with an integration rate reaching 100 percent.
Abdelatif also emphasized the importance of ensuring a final product that meets consumer expectations and responds to the needs of the national market, especially since milk remains a basic and widely consumed product.
For his part, Omar Rekkache highlighted the importance of directing investments toward priority sectors. He particularly pointed to projects related to the manufacturing of packaging materials, given their role in strengthening local integration, increasing added value and improving the competitiveness of the national economy.
At the end of the meeting, the Minister of Internal Trade and National Market Regulation renewed the sector’s commitment to continuing support for economic operators. She also reaffirmed the ministry’s readiness to provide suitable conditions for developing the UHT milk sector.
This approach aims to ensure sustainable supply to the national market while supporting and strengthening national production.
