Swiss Excellence Scholarships Open for Algerian Researchers

Switzerland has announced the opening of its Excellence Scholarships for Algerian researchers for the 2027/2028 academic year. The program, unveiled by the Swiss Embassy in Algiers on Friday, August 14, offers elite funding for research and doctoral studies within Switzerland's leading laboratories. This initiative aims to support talented young Algerian researchers in advancing their academic careers.
Applications for these prestigious scholarships will be accepted from August 20 until November 30, 2026, via the official GO ESKAS platform. The Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (CFBE) awards these allocations, targeting candidates who have completed a Master's or Doctorate degree. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to undertake research internships, doctorates, or post-doctorates across Swiss universities, specialized higher education institutions, and federal polytechnic schools. A key requirement for research scholarship consideration is support from a Swiss academic supervisor.
The annual Excellence Scholarship program highlights Switzerland's commitment to promoting international scientific cooperation with over 180 partner countries, including Algeria. Switzerland, recognized globally as an innovation leader, dedicates more than three percent of its Gross Domestic Product to research and development. This robust financial backing supports world-class institutions and provides an exceptional environment for scientists, fostering academic integration and offering avenues for significant scientific discoveries and technology transfer. The results of the applications are expected to be communicated by the CFBE no later than the end of May.
