Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Professor Kamal Rezig, confirmed Thursday in Ankara that formal bilateral negotiations have officially begun toward concluding a preferential trade agreement between Algeria and Turkey, marking a pivotal step in deepening economic ties between the two nations.
Speaking exclusively to dzwatch at the opening of the Algeria-Turkey Economic Forum, Rezig described the anticipated agreement as a “qualitative leap” in bilateral economic relations, opening markets to 20 products where each country holds competitive advantages.
The forum, attended by over 150 Algerian and Turkish operators across agriculture, industry, energy, and tourism sectors, coincides with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s official state visit to Turkey.
Rezig highlighted remarkable trade growth, with bilateral exchange rising from $4.7 billion in 2013 to over $6 billion in 2024, making Turkey Algeria’s fifth-largest trade partner. Algerian exports reached $3 billion in 2025 against $2.3 billion in imports, reflecting a healthy trade balance.
