Algeria Appoints New Director General of Internal Security in Major Military Reshuffle

Algeria’s People’s National Army has officially appointed Brigadier General Munir Zahi as the new Director General of Internal Security, succeeding Brigadier General Ait Ouarab Abdelkader, in a significant military reshuffle overseen by the Ministry of National Defence.

The appointment ceremony was presided over by General Chengriha, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defence and Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army, in accordance with a presidential decree dated May 18, 2026.

Speaking exclusively to dzwatch during the ceremony, General Chengriha declared the appointment official on behalf of the President of the Republic, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, urging the newly appointed general to work under his authority with full dedication, discipline, and loyalty to Algeria’s military regulations and the values of the nation’s glorious revolution.

The outgoing ceremony also served as an opportunity to deliver key directives to the leadership of this sensitive directorate, calling for redoubled efforts in service of the homeland and strict adherence to all assigned missions.
