President Tebboune, Nigerien PM Affirm Excellent Diplomatic Ties

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune met with Nigerien Prime Minister Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine and his high-level delegation in Algiers on Thursday, affirming the excellent and solid diplomatic ties between the two neighboring nations. The Nigerien Prime Minister's two-day visit underscored the strong bilateral relationship, with discussions focusing on areas of mutual interest. During their meeting at the Presidency, President Tebboune and Prime Minister Zeine observed a minute of silence in memory of victims of recent fires in Algeria's central and eastern provinces.

The visit highlights the depth of diplomatic engagement between Algeria and Niger, with relations described as having reached a level of excellence desired by both countries' high authorities. Niger has previously commended Algeria's initiatives, which are founded on the principles of sovereignty, territorial unity, and the rejection of foreign interference in internal state affairs – tenets that Algeria champions, including during its non-permanent membership on the UN Security Council.

Key discussions during the visit also focused on strengthening energy cooperation. Prime Minister Zeine specifically noted the Kafra oil field exploration well project entering a new phase, hailing it as an important step in the Algerian-Nigerien energy partnership. He expressed optimism that the exploration outcomes would unlock promising opportunities for Niger's resource exploitation and contribute to bolstering its national hydrocarbon production, indicating a desire from Niamey to extend existing, rapidly implemented projects, particularly in the energy sector.
