Indian President Congratulates Algeria on Independence Day

Indian President Droupadi Murmu extended her warm congratulations to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and the Algerian people on the occasion of Algeria’s Independence and Youth Day and the anniversary of the recovery of national sovereignty.

In her message, President Murmu conveyed her greetings on behalf of herself, the Government of India and the Indian people, expressing her best wishes for Algeria’s continued progress and prosperity.

The Indian President highlighted the close historical ties between Algeria and India, describing their relationship as one founded on longstanding friendship, mutual respect and cooperation.

She also expressed India’s willingness to continue strengthening and expanding bilateral relations in ways that serve the shared interests of the two countries and their peoples.

President Murmu placed particular emphasis on South-South cooperation, which promotes collaboration between developing countries in areas such as economic development, technology, education, investment and the exchange of expertise.

Her message reflects the strong diplomatic ties between Algiers and New Delhi and the two countries’ shared desire to deepen their partnership in several strategic fields.

Relations between Algeria and India have developed over decades through political dialogue, economic exchanges and coordination on international issues. The two countries have also supported cooperation among nations of the Global South and defended principles including sovereignty, independence and mutual respect.

Bilateral relations gained further momentum following President Murmu’s state visit to Algeria in October 2024, the first visit to the country by an Indian head of state. During that visit, President Murmu and President Tebboune reviewed bilateral relations and agreed to strengthen cooperation across several sectors.

The congratulatory message also underlines India’s recognition of the historical significance of Algeria’s independence, which marked the end of colonial rule and the restoration of national sovereignty.

Through this message, the Indian leadership reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with Algeria to build a stronger partnership based on friendship, solidarity and mutually beneficial cooperation.
