Algeria Delivers First Batch of Locally Produced Fuel Transport Trucks to Naftal

Algeria’s Ministry of National Defence delivered the first batch of trucks designed to transport petroleum products to the national fuel distribution company Naftal on Sunday.
The delivery operation was carried out by the Vehicle Industry Development Establishment, which operates under the ministry’s Directorate of Military Industries, at the Algerian Heavy-Duty Vehicle Production Company’s Mercedes-Benz facility in Rouiba, east of Algiers.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of National Defence, the first batch consists of 100 Mercedes-Benz ACTROS tractor trucks.
The vehicles were delivered with 100 locally manufactured fuel-tanker semi-trailers bearing the Sonacome brand. The tankers are specifically designed for the safe and efficient transport of petroleum products across the country.
The delivery represents a new step in Algeria’s efforts to develop its domestic vehicle-manufacturing industry and increase the use of locally produced equipment by major national companies.
The operation is also expected to strengthen Naftal’s transportation fleet and improve its capacity to distribute fuel and other petroleum products to different regions.
The ACTROS trucks are produced at the Rouiba plant as part of Algeria’s industrial partnership with Mercedes-Benz. The facility specializes in manufacturing heavy-duty and commercial vehicles intended to meet the needs of public institutions, economic operators and the national market.
Meanwhile, the locally produced Sonacome tanker semi-trailers demonstrate the growing contribution of Algerian industrial companies to the manufacture of specialized transport equipment.
By combining locally assembled tractor trucks with nationally manufactured tankers, the project contributes to increasing industrial integration, reducing reliance on imported equipment and supporting the development of national expertise.
The Ministry of National Defence’s industrial establishments have played an increasingly important role in producing vehicles and equipment for both military and civilian use.
Their activities support Algeria’s broader strategy to strengthen national manufacturing, create skilled employment opportunities and supply public companies with reliable locally produced equipment.
The delivery of the first 100 trucks is expected to be followed by additional batches as part of efforts to modernize Naftal’s fleet and improve the national distribution network for petroleum products.
The operation also reflects cooperation between Algeria’s defence industries and the country’s public economic sector, with the aim of supporting domestic production and strengthening national industrial sovereignty.
