Hyundai Motor Plans $400 Million Vehicle Plant in Algeria
South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor has confirmed a $400 million investment for a new vehicle assembly plant in Algeria. This project, pursued with Omani partner Bahwan Saud, targets the commencement of vehicle production by late 2026 or early 2027, aiming for an initial annual capacity of 50,000 units.
The new facility is slated to initially focus on accessible SUVs and light commercial vehicles, with plans for potential expansion to include city cars and electric vehicles in the future. The wilaya of Relizane, specifically the site of Sidi Khettab, has been mentioned as a potential location for this industrial unit.
This initiative aligns with Hyundai Motor's broader strategic growth plans through 2030, positioning Algeria as an industrial base for the North African market. The development highlights Algeria as a new industrial pole within the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, contributing to Hyundai's goal of increasing its worldwide output. The final implementation of the project remains contingent on the completion of necessary procedures and authorizations.
