Italy Praises Algeria’s Visionary Phosphate Project
Algeria's comprehensive integrated phosphate project has garnered praise from Italy, which described the initiative as "visionary." This significant undertaking is set to leverage the Blad el Hadba phosphate deposit located in Tébessa, with contracts already signed with both the Chinese firm CHEC and the Italian company Saipem. The project is estimated to represent an investment of $7 billion.
A primary objective of the project is to achieve an annual production capacity of 10 million tonnes of crude phosphate. To facilitate the export of this output, a dedicated new railway line is planned. This critical infrastructure will connect the mine directly to the port of Annaba, streamlining the logistics for international shipments.
The new railway link and export operations are slated to commence by the year 2027, marking a crucial step in diversifying Algeria's exports and strengthening its national industrial capabilities. This development underscores the strategic importance of the phosphate sector in the country's economic future.
