Algiers Metro Extension Progresses at Bab el-Oued

Work on the new Bab el-Oued metro station in Algiers is progressing at a high pace, marking a significant phase in the extension of Metro Line 1. This crucial infrastructure project, stretching from Place des Martyrs to Bab el-Oued, is being undertaken by the Cosider group, with the Entreprise d’exploitation du Métro d’Alger (EMA) serving as the delegated project owner.
Located at the Jardin Taleb Abderrahmane, the future station bears a name honoring an ALN artilleryman who served in the Algiers autonomous zone during the National Liberation War. Impressive images from the construction site reveal the extensive scale of operations, with large machinery, including excavators and cranes, actively engaged in preparing the station's foundation. Terracing and excavation work is ongoing, complemented by the reinforcement of the tunnel using specialized pillars and support structures.
Once completed, this modern public transport facility is set to considerably enhance the daily commute for citizens. It is anticipated to reduce travel times and alleviate road congestion across the capital. The Bab el-Oued station will seamlessly integrate the popular district into the existing metro network, providing direct access to areas such as El-Harrach.
The metro line's expansion is poised for further development, with future plans to extend connectivity to Algiers airport and Baraki. Moreover, from the Taleb Abderrahmane station, the Algiers Metro is slated to continue its reach towards the western districts of the capital, encompassing areas like El-Biar and Châteauneuf, thereby broadening its service to more urban sectors.
