Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb Directs Governors for Social Year Preparedness
The Algerian government is undertaking extensive preparations for the upcoming social and academic year, known as the "rentrée sociale," by holding multiple meetings to ensure public services are fully operational. Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb has convened two recent meetings with regional governors (walis), with the latest session focusing on the readiness of university services, as well as school transport and canteens. The primary objective of these directives is to ensure that all essential services are available and functioning optimally from the very first days of the new academic term, thereby preventing any potential delays or deficiencies.
During these meetings, Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb instructed local officials to implement all necessary measures to guarantee that services such as school transport and canteens are operational under the best possible conditions from the first week of the school year. For universities, particular attention was given to ensuring the availability of necessary pedagogical and material resources, alongside the readiness of university infrastructure and various student-oriented services. Additionally, previous discussions emphasized accelerating ongoing work in educational and university establishments, ensuring the timely delivery of new infrastructure projects, and undertaking essential rehabilitation and maintenance for existing facilities. Instructions also covered the consistent availability of transport, textbooks, school supplies, and the regular supply of essential consumer products in the market.
The government's proactive planning also extends to specific needs, including directives for opening special classes and implementing early screening for disorders like autism for children with specific requirements. Furthermore, the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies has held its own meeting to coordinate the connection of educational and university establishments, as well as vocational training structures, to electricity and gas networks. Minister Mourad Adjal urged an acceleration of all ongoing connection operations, with a firm deadline of August 31 for the completion of all works, ensuring that these structures are fully prepared to welcome students and trainees at the start of the new term.
