New Public Transport Buses Arrive for Algerian Cities

Operations for delivering new public transport buses to qualified carriers commenced on August 18, coinciding with the gradual removal of older buses aged 30 years or more from service. The Algerian company Tirsam announced the initial deliveries of these new buses, designated for urban transport routes within Batna. This initiative forms part of Algeria's broader objective to modernize its public transport fleet, involving various stakeholders and operators across the sector.
The initial vehicles delivered boast a capacity of up to 100 passengers and are outfitted with contemporary equipment and features designed to meet urban transport requirements. These additions aim to ensure elevated levels of safety, comfort, and service quality for travelers, while also working to mitigate road accidents involving passenger transport buses. A commercial advisor from Tirsam confirmed the company has supplied 1,000 buses of various types from the Yutong brand, emphasizing their high quality and adherence to international standards.
Tirsam's CEO, Samir Maala, confirmed that deliveries of the new buses are slated to continue across several other wilayas nationwide in the coming hours, building on previous operations where over 640 buses were supplied to wilayas including Algiers, Oran, Annaba, and Constantine. Concurrently, Algeria is also planning the implementation of speed and driving time measurement devices, known as tachographs, in heavy vehicles and passenger transport vehicles. Minister of Interior and Transport, Saïd Sayoud, recently oversaw a meeting focused on accelerating preparations and finalizing technical and organizational procedures for activating this device.
