German Delegation to Visit Algeria for Green Hydrogen Exploration
The Algerian-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (AHK Algeria) has announced a forthcoming visit by a German business delegation to Algeria, scheduled for September 21-25, 2026. This mission, organized by the German company “Energy Wachter” in collaboration with AHK Algeria and supported by the German Federal Ministry of Economy and Energy's Energy Export Initiative, aims to explore opportunities for cooperation in green hydrogen and related energy transition technologies. The delegation will focus on solutions for converting energy into other products and advanced energy storage systems, as part of efforts to connect North African hydrogen production capabilities with European markets.
During their visit, the German companies are expected to showcase their expertise and solutions across a range of areas vital for developing the hydrogen and energy ecosystem. These include electrolysis, water treatment and desalination, energy storage, compression techniques, and industrial equipment. Further discussions will encompass the rehabilitation and conversion of pipelines, materials and engineering solutions, certification processes, and the preparation of feasibility studies. The program will facilitate institutional and technical presentations, knowledge exchange, and pre-scheduled bilateral business-to-business (B2B) meetings between German firms and Algerian energy sector institutions, industrial operators, investors, and financing entities, to identify project needs and potential partnerships.
This anticipated engagement holds particular significance within the framework of the SoutH2 Corridor project, an initiative that brings together Algeria, Tunisia, Italy, Austria, and Germany. The SoutH2 Corridor, envisioned as a 3,300-kilometer pathway, is designed to transport green hydrogen from production sites in Algeria and Tunisia to European markets. Its development involves establishing the necessary infrastructure for hydrogen production, transport, and distribution, thereby establishing a vital link for future energy supplies.
The German delegation's visit extends beyond mere knowledge exchange, aiming to foster practical projects and strategic partnerships in a sector poised for significant growth. For Algeria, this collaboration presents a substantial opportunity to enhance its standing within the emerging hydrogen value chain, leveraging its considerable renewable energy potential, particularly in its southern regions. Furthermore, the country's existing gas transport networks can play a crucial role as part of the future hydrogen transport infrastructure, solidifying Algeria's position in the evolving energy landscape and strengthening its economic relations with Europe.
