National Land Office Manages Over 4 Million Hectares for Food Security

Algeria views its agricultural land as a fundamental pillar for achieving food security and fostering a productive, sustainable national economy capable of generating wealth and employment. The National Office of Agricultural Lands (ONFA) manages a substantial portfolio, exceeding 4.29 million hectares, benefiting nearly 280,000 farmers and investors. This significant asset underscores the nation's commitment to leveraging its resources for long-term economic stability and growth.
The Algerian government is actively pursuing the regularization of land statuses and modernizing management through digitalization to enhance transparency and efficiency. This strategic shift aims to transition from mere land administration to valuing it as an investment. A recent seminar, organized by ONFA in collaboration with the Algerian Center for Economic Foresight, Investment Development, and Entrepreneurship (CAPEI), highlighted agricultural real estate as a strategic opportunity to boost national investment and production. The event focused on integrating modern technology and directing land towards high-yield productive projects, including opportunities for youth investment.
Discussions at the seminar, led by ONFA Director-General Mohamed Amziane Lanaasri and CAPEI President Akram Zaidi, underscored that the challenge extends beyond simply providing land or settling its status. The primary objective is to transform it into a productive asset, capable of increasing yields, diversifying output, and creating added value. Digitalization is identified as a crucial tool to accelerate file processing, improve land monitoring, and provide precise data for decision-making, while also simplifying administrative procedures. This comprehensive approach ensures that agricultural land serves as a springboard for projects that create wealth and contribute to reinforcing national production.
