Oran Welcomes Vivo Factory with 6,000-Phone Daily Capacity

Chinese smartphone brand Vivo has officially inaugurated a new factory in Oran, marking a notable foreign industrial investment in Algeria. The facility, situated in Es Sénia, was opened by Brahim Ouchene, the Wali of Oran. This factory is owned by STI (Technologie et Innovation Intelligente), a company specializing in modern technologies, including the manufacturing and assembly of smartphones in partnership with Vivo.
The new plant spans 7,000 square meters and is equipped with two production lines. While it initially produces 2,000 telephones daily, its maximum capacity is projected to reach approximately 6,000 phones per day. The operation commenced with a workforce of around 200 individuals, with plans to progressively expand to 600 direct jobs and generate over 1,200 indirect employment opportunities. Vivo focuses on producing mid-range and high-end smartphones.
This inauguration is seen as a positive development for the Algerian market, addressing previous challenges related to smartphone availability and pricing, which arose from import restrictions and delays in the local phone assembly industry. The Algerian government has established conditions for manufacturers, including the local production of certain components and strict prohibitions against disguised imports, further supporting the growth of domestic industrial capabilities.
