Veteran Journalist Hamid Tahri, El Moudjahid Alumnus, Passes

Hamid Tahri, a founding member of the influential Algerian daily El Watan and a respected journalist, has passed away. Tahri commenced his professional journalism career in 1974 at the public newspaper El Moudjahid before playing a pivotal role in the establishment of El Watan in 1990. This independent title rapidly became a significant voice in the national media landscape, deeply shaped by his contributions.
A sociologist by training, Tahri developed a diverse journalistic portfolio over several decades, distinguishing himself as an editorialist, reporter, and portraitist. His work explored a wide range of subjects, including the experiences of the moudjahidine, university life, sports, culture, and politics, with numerous portraits bearing his signature. Beyond his written contributions, Tahri was also known for his talent in caricature, employing it to offer unique perspectives on current events and society.
His passing has prompted condolences from across the country, with the Presidency of the Republic’s Directorate General of Communication acknowledging him as "one of the eminent pens of the Algerian written press." The Ministry of Communication also honored his "long career marked by professionalism and dedication."
