Algerian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamel Baddari, representing President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, participated in the International Exhibition of Agriculture and Food Industries (AGRA 2026) in Gornja Radgona, Slovenia, where Algeria holds the distinguished position of guest of honor. During the event, Minister Baddari, alongside Slovenian Minister of Agriculture Janez Cigler Kralj, officially inaugurated the Algerian-Slovenian Business Forum. This forum is designed to foster deeper economic and agricultural partnerships, facilitating the valorization of Algeria's agricultural and food capabilities and introducing its diverse products to European markets. The Algerian presence at AGRA 2026 is part of a dynamic bilateral agenda, emphasizing mutual cooperation.
Both nations have expressed a shared commitment to translating bilateral agreements into concrete investment projects and enhancing the mutual transfer of technology. Minister Baddari underscored Algeria's extensive material and human resources dedicated to supporting innovation and agricultural development, affirming the readiness of Algerian institutions for major projects and productive partnerships. He also called for the swift establishment of a joint business council, which he described as an essential driver for realizing strategic projects. Slovenia views Algeria as a promising investment hub and a primary gateway to the African continent, while Algeria perceives Slovenia as a favorable commercial space and a vital bridge to Central European markets.
The discussions at the forum centered on vital areas of cooperation, including the integration of artificial intelligence into innovative agricultural solutions, the transfer of technology, and the development of modern mechanization to enhance production and modernize agricultural product chains. Participants explored opportunities for joint research and development projects aimed at sustainable forest protection and resource utilization. Emphasizing Algeria's natural potential, infrastructure, and skilled university competencies to attract investments and develop food security solutions was also a key focus. Minister Baddari further highlighted the reforms undertaken by Algeria to modernize its agricultural model under President Tebboune's leadership, including land reclamation in the South and High Plateaus and expanding irrigated areas, noting that achieving food security is a national security imperative. Both countries affirmed their resolve to build a robust partnership connecting universities, research institutions, and economic operators to transform research outcomes into tangible development projects.
