Arzew Fertilizer Plant Expansion Secures 50% Production Increase

Algeria and Oman have formally initiated the expansion project for the Algerian-Omani Fertilizers Company (AOA) plant situated in the industrial zone of Arzew, Oran. This significant undertaking aims to increase the facility's current production capacity of ammonia and urea by 50% through the addition of a new production line. The project represents a collaborative effort between Algeria's Sonatrach and the Omani Suhail Bahwan Holding group, reflecting a shared commitment to developing projects based on economic complementarity and mutual interest.
This agreement marks a transition from extensive discussions and technical studies to the active implementation phase of the expansion. Over the past year, continuous and in-depth technical and commercial consultations between the partners culminated in this official consensus. The 50% boost in production capacity is set to substantially enhance the industrial capabilities of the Arzew site, promoting the transformation of national resources and increasing added value in the fertilizer sector.
The formal launch was solidified during a meeting in Algiers, where the Minister of Hydrocarbons, Mohamed Arkab, received Sheikh Saad Ben Suhail Bahwan, Chairman of the Omani Suhail Bahwan Holding, alongside Oman's Ambassador to Algeria, Saif Ben Nasser Ben Rached Al-Badaï, and Sonatrach CEO Nourredine Daoudi. During the meeting, Minister Arkab affirmed the Hydrocarbons sector's full support, pledging to facilitate the project's execution by removing any potential obstacles and closely monitoring its scheduled timeline.
This joint venture underscores the robust and distinguished historical ties between Algeria and the Sultanate of Oman. Both nations lauded the positive momentum in their bilateral cooperation, which is seen as a reflection of the sincere political will of their respective leaderships towards establishing an exemplary strategic partnership. The expansion is expected to further strengthen these economic bonds and contribute significantly to Algeria's industrial development goals.
