Abdelkrim Fergat Claims Gold for Algeria at Mediterranean Games

Wrestler Abdelkrim Fergat secured Algeria's inaugural gold medal at the Mediterranean Games in Taranto, Italy. Competing in Greco-Roman wrestling, his victory marks a significant achievement for the nation at the multi-sport event being held in 2026.
Fergat triumphed in the 60 kg category final, defeating Egyptian opponent Mahmoud Saad with a dominant score of 10-1. This decisive win demonstrated his strong performance on the Italian mats, culminating in Algeria's first top honor at the Games.
The gold medal from Fergat follows earlier successes for Algeria in the competition, which had already seen bronze medals secured by the mixed badminton duo of Koucila and Tanina Maamri, and by Nadir Harbi in Taekwondo's -58 kg category. Fergat's achievement underscores the nation's continued prowess in wrestling, a discipline that consistently contributes to Algeria's podium finishes in regional events.
