Mediterranean Games Final: U21 Team Downs Morocco in Shootout

Algeria's U21 national football team has secured a place in the final of the Mediterranean Games, following a victory over Morocco in the semi-final. The match concluded with a 1-1 draw after regular time, leading to a penalty shootout that saw Algeria emerge victorious with a 4-3 scoreline. This triumph sets up a final confrontation with Tunisia in a highly anticipated match.

The semi-final, hosted in Taranto, witnessed a competitive display from both sides. Ben Ahmed Kohili opened the scoring for Algeria in the 24th minute. Morocco responded in the 51st minute, equalizing after a defensive mix-up by the Algerian side. Despite efforts from both teams, neither could secure a decisive lead within the standard playing period, necessitating the penalty shootout.

During the critical penalty phase, the Algerian players maintained composure, with goalkeeper Mohammed El Koubi making two crucial saves. Mohamed Faiz Belgourai ultimately converted the final penalty, sealing Algeria's advancement. This achievement marks the U21 team's first appearance in the Mediterranean Games football final in 33 years, with their last final participation recorded in 1993. The team now prepares to compete for the gold medal against Tunisia, aiming to conclude their campaign successfully.
