Oran-Based Anacard’Or Plans Three Cashew Processing Plants in Tanzania

Sarl Anacard'Or, an Algerian company specializing in cashew processing, is preparing to expand its operations into Tanzania with the planned construction of three industrial units. The project, presented by Anacard'Or owner and general manager Walid Dib to Tanzania's Ambassador to Algeria, Mobhare Matinyi, during a visit to the company's Oran factory, seeks to boost local processing of Tanzanian cashews and fulfill global market requirements. The initial unit is scheduled for establishment in Masasi, Mtwara region, and will feature modern machinery sourced from Vietnam. Anacard'Or is collaborating with a local partner to finalize the registration of the first company, provisionally named Kilimanjaro Nuts Limited, according to information from the Tanzanian Embassy in Algeria on August 20.

Mr. Dib cited the exceptional quality of Tanzanian cashew production as a primary reason for selecting Tanzania for this venture. The timeline for the project includes ordering equipment from Vietnamese suppliers in September, followed by the shipment of machinery to Tanzania alongside experts tasked with training local counterparts, with training expected to commence in January 2027. Warehouses for cashew storage are currently being prepared in the Masasi district. Ambassador Matinyi welcomed this investment initiative, affirming that Tanzanian authorities would support the project. He highlighted the Tanzanian government's commitment to increasing investments in cashew shelling and processing activities, aiming to add value before export and reduce raw cashew exports.

During the ambassador's visit, Mr. Dib also showcased cashews imported from Tanzania and processed at the Oran factory, noting that the Tanzanian products underwent all production stages before packaging and sale. Anacard'Or has now opted to concentrate its purchases on Tanzanian cashews, with significant volumes already in transit between Tanzania and Algeria. Ambassador Matinyi indicated that the establishment of new industrial units is expected to contribute to job creation, increased public revenue, skills transfer, and foreign currency inflows for Tanzania, which reported a national cashew production of 617,683 tonnes in the 2025/2026 campaign.
