Algiers – Forty Algerian startups presented their innovative energy projects to Sonatrach on Tuesday in Algiers, aiming to establish collaborative partnerships with the state-owned energy giant.

During the event, held at Sonatrach’s headquarters with the attendance of the company’s CEO, Rachid Hachichi, and senior executives, the startups presented solutions in various energy sectors. These include energy efficiency, oilfield services, hydrocarbon production technologies, artificial intelligence for the oil industry, solar energy system maintenance, industrial waste management in the energy sector, as well as seawater desalination and wastewater treatment technologies.

Sonatrach’s CEO, Rachid Hachichi, emphasized the company’s keen interest in these projects, stating, “Sonatrach firmly believes in national integration and recognizes that outstanding talent exists in abundance within Algeria.”

Hachichi expressed a strong desire for Algerian startups to become key technology solution providers for Sonatrach, allowing the company to “overcome future challenges and succeed in an increasingly competitive market where innovation is the driving force behind the energy transition.”

Addressing the participating startups, Hachichi said, “Our ambition is to expand our connections with you and support your entrepreneurial journey. We aim not just to be a partner, but a catalyst for your growth and development.”

Regarding the quality of the presentations, Hachichi commented that they were “very impressive” and reaffirmed that any locally produced solution meeting Sonatrach’s standards would be prioritized and encouraged.

Hachichi also highlighted Sonatrach’s ongoing efforts to adapt its contracting procedures to promote and strengthen local content in alignment with public policy directives.

During the event, bilateral meetings were held between the startups and Sonatrach representatives to exchange ideas and explore potential business and partnership opportunities.

In statements to APS (Algerian Press Service), representatives from the participating startups praised the event as a significant opportunity for young entrepreneurs and innovators. They noted that their products and services could significantly contribute to Algeria’s energy industry.

While some startups are seeking to renew and continue their collaboration with Sonatrach after securing contracts in recent years, others are working to convince the company of the effectiveness of their solutions to secure new agreements.

Sonatrach has already signed contracts with several startups, particularly in upstream oil activities. These include Exceed Algeria, LORS, Genesol, Castenbrok, RMB, El Kendi, and SOF Drilling.

Sonatrach officials confirmed during the event that talks are ongoing with other startups to explore potential future collaborations. Sonatrach Innovative Energy Projects
