Algiers – Madar Holding honored the Algerian athletes who won medals at the Paris 2024 Olympics (July 26 – August 11) during a ceremony held on Wednesday evening at the El Aurassi Hotel in Algiers.

The athletes celebrated include young gymnast Kaylia Nemour, who won a gold medal in the uneven bars event, boxer Iman Khelif, who took gold in the 66 kg category, and Jamal Sedjati, who claimed the bronze medal in the 800 meters race.

During the ceremony, Iman Khelif expressed her gratitude, stating, “I thank Madar Holding for this recognition, which has brought us great joy and motivates us to continue working hard to honor the national flag.” She added, “My journey does not end here, as I will be preparing for future world championships, especially after Algeria’s membership in the new international boxing federation. I plan to make my mark once again, including at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.”

Kaylia Nemour, the rising star in global gymnastics, also shared her appreciation: “I am deeply honored to be supported by Madar Holding, which has provided me with all the resources and opportunities. I am truly grateful.” She added, “I will continue my preparations for the 2028 Olympics. I have four years ahead to participate in international competitions and world championships.”

Jamal Sedjati, the bronze medalist, said, “I would like to thank Madar Holding for this wonderful recognition, which encourages us to work even harder to bring more glory to Algeria in future international events.”

Madar Group CEO, Amara Charaf-Eddine, explained, “We honored these athletes for their outstanding achievements in raising Algeria’s flag high and making us all proud. This event also served as an opportunity for business leaders to meet with athletes, fostering a continued spirit of solidarity, which ultimately benefits Algeria.”

Charaf-Eddine also called on business leaders to support sports at all levels, whether professional or amateur, contributing to the efforts of public authorities. “The collaboration between businesses and athletes will undoubtedly bear fruit,” he said.

The Secretary-General of the Algerian Olympic and Sports Committee, Kheireddine Barbari, praised the ceremony, stating, “We thank Madar Holding for honoring these Olympic champions who have made the Algerian people proud.” He added, “Following this recognition, our champions will begin preparing for future competitions, receiving full support, especially from public authorities, as they aim to achieve similar successes to those achieved at the Paris 2024 Olympics.”

The event saw the attendance of Algerian sports federation leaders, former Olympic champions such as Nouria Benida Merrah (gold in 1500m at the 2000 Sydney Olympics), Mohamed Allalou (bronze in boxing at Sydney 2000), and former world boxing vice-champion Mohamed Flissi. Current athletes, including Bashir Sid Azara (Greco-Roman wrestling) and football star Islam Slimani, also joined the celebration.

Algeria participated in the Paris Olympics with a delegation of 46 athletes (27 men and 19 women) across 15 sports disciplines. The country won three medals: two golds and one bronze, marking the first time since the 1996 Atlanta Games that Algeria achieved such a feat.

Algerian athletes delivered competitive performances across various sports, including gymnastics, athletics, boxing, judo, rowing, and canoeing. While not all managed to secure podium finishes, their efforts reflect a significant improvement in Algeria’s standing in global sports.
