In a swift response to recent security concerns affecting iPhones, iPads, and Macs, Apple has rolled out critical security updates aimed at addressing two vulnerabilities actively exploited by hackers to breach individual devices.

These updates follow the revelation of a significant security flaw by security experts from Google’s Threat Analysis Group, specializing in the study of state-backed cyber attacks.

For iOS system users, the new security updates can be installed by navigating to ‘Settings,’ then ‘General,’ and subsequently ‘Software Update.’ In the macOS operating system, these updates are accessible through ‘System Settings,’ then ‘General,’ and finally, by clicking on ‘Software Update.’

Apple has resolved two vulnerabilities found in WebKit, the engine powering Safari and several other applications. As reported by Business Today, these flaws facilitated remote infiltrations by hackers, enabling them to implant malicious code, including spyware, onto users’ devices via the internet. Such vulnerabilities are commonly referred to as “zero-day” exploits, indicating that manufacturers have no time to patch the security gap before it is actively exploited.

In its security alerts, Apple acknowledged awareness of a report suggesting that these issues might have been exploited in previous iOS versions. Despite Apple’s prompt release of these urgent updates, the identity of the perpetrators exploiting these flaws remains unknown.

Earlier this week, Google also confronted a security flaw in the Google Chrome browser, acknowledging the existence of an exploit.
