Algeria’s Minister of State for Hydrocarbons, Mohamed Arkab, received Somalia’s Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation, Ali Yusuf Ali, on Tuesday at the ministry’s headquarters in Algiers, as part of an official visit to Algeria.
The meeting, exclusively confirmed to dzwatch, focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation between Algeria and Somalia, particularly in the hydrocarbons sector, following the positive momentum generated by the Somali President’s landmark visit to Algeria in November 2025, which resulted in the signing of several cooperation agreements.
Discussions centered on Somalia’s planned oil and gas exploration operations set to launch in 2026, with the Somali side expressing strong interest in benefiting from Algeria’s renowned expertise and the experience of the Sonatrach group in exploration, production, refining, training, and regulatory frameworks.
Both sides reaffirmed the importance of developing institutional partnerships and expanding knowledge-transfer programs between Algerian and Somali energy institutions, marking a new chapter in South-South cooperation.
