Algeria’s Council of Ministers Issues Strategic Directives on Petrochemicals, Eid Livestock, and Infrastructure

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defence, chaired a Council of Ministers meeting addressing key national priorities across multiple sectors.

Petrochemical Industry Strategy

President Tebboune ordered the acceleration of Algeria’s vast petrochemical potential, targeting reduced plastic imports and positioning Algeria as a leading producer of raw materials, including helium. The Fertial company was exclusively designated to exploit concentrated phosphate ore as a first phase.

Eid Al-Adha Livestock Imports

Following the Agriculture Minister’s commitment to import and distribute one million sheep 48 hours before Eid, the President issued strict directives to ensure successful distribution. He also banned the slaughter of imported female sheep, redirecting them to breeding facilities to preserve animal wealth.

Annaba Port and Mining Infrastructure

The President praised workers on the Annaba port expansion and the Blad El-Hadba-Oued El-Kibrit mining railway project, urging maximum efficiency to launch phosphate production at the earliest opportunity.

Water Management Overhaul

President Tebboune ordered a comprehensive review of Algeria’s water distribution network, prioritizing anti-waste measures and modernizing the Algérienne des Eaux company, particularly in municipalities lacking local branches.
