Algeria’s Ministry of Culture and Arts has expressed its absolute condemnation and categorical rejection of what it described as an “isolated incident and vile aggression” targeting the Algerian pavilion during the African Week at UNESCO headquarters in Paris.
In an exclusive statement to dzwatch, the Ministry emphasized that “this irresponsible behavior, completely alien to the values of dialogue championed by UN bodies, will not deter Algeria from continuing its noble civilizational mission.”
The Ministry praised Algerian craftsmen and exhibitors who demonstrated unwavering commitment to representing their homeland, proving that Algerian cultural identity is protected by its authenticity and the awareness of its people above all else.
Authorities confirmed full support for all legal and administrative measures initiated by the Algerian Embassy in France to pursue those responsible for this violation within UNESCO premises.
The Ministry stressed that “these desperate attempts to undermine Algeria’s cultural presence clearly reflect helplessness in the face of Algeria’s successive victories in registering its tangible and intangible heritage” — most recently the official recognition of the Zorna file.
