Russia is moving to strengthen its position as a top educational destination for Algerian students, with sweeping new measures aimed at expanding academic cooperation and streamlining access to Russian universities.
Mohammed Sidmo, dzwatch’s correspondent in Moscow, reports that Russian Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Andrei Vladimirovich Omiltchouk told dzwatch exclusively that Moscow is committed to growing its educational partnership with Algeria, including offering scholarships in highly specialized fields such as nuclear sciences.
Currently, Russian universities host approximately 350,000 international students from 180 countries. A significant share of Algerian students already benefit from free tuition in Russia, with fee-exempt Algerian students representing nearly one-third of all Algerians pursuing university education there. Annual scholarships currently stand at 100 slots, with plans to increase this figure substantially.
The Russian official also announced the possibility of allocating additional exceptional scholarships for Algerian students outside the standard annual quota, alongside full digitalization of enrollment procedures to ease access for prospective Algerian applicants.
