Seven innovative projects across various agricultural sectors were crowned Thursday in Algiers at the sixth edition of the Africa SIPSA Innov Sid Ahmed Farroukhi agricultural innovation award, held on the sidelines of the 24th International Fair for Agriculture, Livestock, and Food Industries (SIPSA).
From nearly 100 startups competing across AgriTech, FoodTech, and AquaTech categories, 20 projects were shortlisted, with seven ultimately winning — including six Algerian startups.
Mohamed Mounir Korbi, Deputy Director of Agricultural Research at the Ministry of Agriculture, told dzwatch that first place went to Algerian startup B3 AQUA for its advanced aquaculture equipment. Biofertech claimed second place for its carbon footprint reduction technology, while Papy’s Farm took third for innovative lettuce and aromatic herb production.
The event also honored winners of the national extra virgin olive oil competition, with 182 participants and 137 medals awarded. The Mesghat brand from Bordj Bou Arreridj took first place, followed by Abdaoui Olive from Naama and Aicha brand in third.
