German Cyclist Mio Amen Wins Stage in Tour of Algeria, Algerian Ayoub Sahiri Wears the Yellow Jersey

In an exciting third stage of the 24th Tour of Algeria 2024, German cyclist Mio Amen from team “Embrace the World” clinched the victory. The race, which spanned 156 kilometers from Mostaganem to Medea, saw intense competition among participants. Meanwhile, Algerian rider Ayoub Sahiri of Dely Ibrahim Club donned the prestigious yellow jersey, leading the general classification.

The event, attracting 47 riders from 16 teams, witnessed Amen completing the stage in 3 hours, 10 minutes, and 25 seconds. He was closely followed by Ayoub Sahiri and Canadian William Goodfellow from the American “Ouro Cycling Team,” both clocking the same time as Amen.

In the general classification, Sahiri took over the yellow jersey previously worn by his compatriot Hamza Yassin from Madar Pro Team during the first two stages. Eritrean rider Tihom Hagos Miron currently holds the second overall position, followed by Algerian Nassim Saïdi from Madar Pro Team.

Yassin Hamza managed to retain the green jersey as the fastest sprinter with 16 points, closely followed by Eritrean Tihom Hagos Miron with 15 points, and Mio Amen with 10 points. The polka dot jersey for the best climber was secured by Eritrean Akililu Gebrehiwet, ahead of Indian Kayaadi Ayman and Eritrean Amen Awi.

Eritrean Michael Melkias continues to hold the white jersey awarded to the best young rider under 23 years of age.

The fourth stage of the Tour of Algeria 2024 is set to take place tomorrow, starting from Chlef and ending in Blida, covering a distance of 154.3 kilometers.

The Tour of Algeria is part of the UCI Africa Tour calendar and is organized according to the regulations set by both the Algerian and International Cycling Unions. The race is closely monitored by a commissioner from the International Cycling Union and an anti-doping inspector, ensuring compliance and fairness throughout the competition.
