Algeria Declares July 5, 2026, a Paid Public Holiday for Independence Dayر

The Algerian Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security, in coordination with the General Directorate of Public Service and Administrative Reform, announced on Tuesday that Sunday, July 5, 2026, will be observed as a paid public holiday in celebration of Independence Day.

According to the joint statement, the decision is based on Law No. 63-278 of July 26, 1963, as amended, which establishes Algeria’s official public holidays. The paid holiday applies to all employees of public institutions, government administrations, public bodies, and private sector companies, regardless of their legal status, including workers paid on a daily or hourly basis.

The statement also instructed public institutions, administrations, and companies to take the necessary measures to ensure the continuity of essential services in departments that operate on a shift-based system.
