BEA, BADR, BNA Support National Public Transport Fleet

Algerian financial institutions are significantly expanding their support for the modernization of the national public passenger transport fleet. The Banque Nationale d’Algérie (BNA), Banque Extérieure d’Algérie (BEA), and Banque d’Agriculture et de Développement Rural (BADR) have all introduced new credit offers to finance the acquisition of new public transport buses, targeting the replacement of vehicles older than 25 years. This concerted effort underscores a commitment to upgrading essential public services and ensuring a more modern and efficient transportation infrastructure.

These specialized credit facilities are available to private transporters, including both individuals and legal entities. The financing packages can cover up to 90 percent of the total acquisition cost for new buses, complemented by a required personal contribution of at least 10 percent from the beneficiary. Additionally, the state provides support covering 20 percent of the cost. Loans feature a repayment period of 10 years and include an initial grace period of six months, with financing options available through classic credit or Islamic finance methods like Murabaha, at an annual rate or profit margin of 5.5 percent excluding taxes.

The initiative aligns with broader measures implemented by public authorities to enhance road safety and significantly improve the quality of public transport services. By facilitating the renewal of the bus fleet, these banks are directly contributing to the strategic objective of providing safer, more reliable, and higher-standard public transportation for citizens nationwide.
