National Security Dismantles International Drug Ring, Seizes Over 10 Million Psychotropics

The Ministry of Interior, Local Communities, and Urban Planning has officially commended Algeria's national security services for their "qualitative and exceptional achievement" in dismantling an international organized criminal network. The Central Service for Combating Illicit Trafficking in Drugs and Psychotropic Substances led the operation, which was the culmination of extensive intelligence work and precise investigations initiated earlier this year. This significant effort successfully disrupted a major drug trafficking ring.

The comprehensive security operation led to the seizure of a substantial quantity of illicit substances, including 10.4 million capsules of Pregabalin psychotropic drugs and 33.4 kilograms of cocaine. Authorities also confiscated 19 various vehicles, including a tanker truck, three motorcycles used in criminal activities, and over 1.5 billion centimes in national currency derived from criminal proceeds. The estimated market value of the seized items is approximately 1000 billion centimes. Furthermore, 25 individuals associated with the criminal organization, including one woman and one foreign national, were apprehended.

The Ministry lauded the professionalism, readiness, and efficiency demonstrated by all participating security services and units, recognizing their high level of vigilance in confronting organized crime. This achievement, which coincided with the dual anniversary of Mujahid Day on August 20th, underscores Algeria's unwavering resolve to protect its national security and societal stability. The Ministry reaffirmed the security services' commitment to decisively counter organized crime networks and illicit drug trafficking to safeguard citizens and Algerian youth from these destructive threats.
