Russian Ambassador Solomatin Expects Direct Algiers-Moscow Flights

Russia is actively anticipating the swift resumption of direct flights between Algiers and Moscow, an initiative confirmed by Russian Ambassador to Algeria, Alexey Solomatin. These direct air services, which will be operated by Air Algérie, are viewed as a key development in enhancing connectivity between the two capitals.

The restoration of these flights is considered essential for fostering deeper bilateral cooperation and developing various forms of exchange. Both nations share a mutual interest in the re-establishment of regular air travel, particularly to support the growth of tourism, business interactions, and humanitarian links.

This renewed focus on direct air travel follows Air Algérie's cessation of flights to Russia in March 2026. The Russian Ambassador highlighted a noticeable increase in Algerian interest in visiting Russia for leisure, evidenced by an 11% rise in tourist visas issued in 2025 compared to the previous year.
